it would cost MORE in octane booster than to just buy the fuel. read the bottle. what you get is .1 (one tenth) which they call a point, it is NOT one whole octane number.
I can get a 2 oz. bottle of Lucas octane booster (the best IMO) at my local indy for $4.00. That’s enough to treat one tank. My tank holds 5 gallons. Do the math. The octane booster would cost me $.20 more than the 93 octane. If I had a 6 gallon tank I could save $.56. Big whoop. I think I’ll just fill it up with premium and ride.
Many octane boosters only raise tenths of a point, not entire points. Just buy premium and be done. In reality, if a person can't afford an extra $3 for a tank of gas, they can't afford to ride.

just to say:
i run a 2001 xls with over 10:1 and run the lowest octane fuel around here and ZERO issues. my camming allows for it since dynamic compression is low enough for the fuel. i did have clutch off issues but i retarded the timing and trashed the voes and run rpm base adv timing. do i lose anything, my butt dyno says no but a true dyno might differ. now i also have issues when they do the seasonal fuel blends. but by far and large, i run swamp water.

Big difference in weight, load and heat between an XL and a touring bike.
the point was, tune for it. i bet mine isn't far off from your bagger on take off, i pull a very tall gear. also, with retarded camming, it really doesn't come to life till you cross 4k. the power band is shifted around 500 rpm up scale. i dropped around 5* on ignition so the ping went away mostly, only when ambient is hot. still can drop timing to 20* if needed with dual plugs, lead is such as important. i lose the speedo when i drop third out, cruises 120 @ 5k. still 2.5 to go.
