Hello all, I have been running a canned map with pretty good success, but decided to attempt an autotune to try and get rid of a slight surge/lean popping while steadily cruising at around 2000-2100 RPM. I used the canned map the bike was running as the base for autotune. Once in autotune mode, the bike will spit, sputter, and buck when increasing the throttle at all below 2100 or so RPM. It doesn't seem to occur when leaving a stop light in 1st gear, but rather while cruising at any RPM less than 2100 and then attempting to accelerate. After riding this way for a bit, I saw that there were a decent amount of cells "learned", so I finished the autotune and applied the changes thus creating a new map. Once the new map was flashed to the bike, it ran terrible. I called V&H and the had me upload the original canned map to them, which they altered and sent back. The bike runs good again with the map they sent back. The tech at V&H explained that it ran that way in autotune because while in that mode, the FP3 shuts off certain sensors and does away with accel/decel enrichment. Long story short, I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if there is some way to fix it and take advantage of the autotune feature? About the bike: 2012 Fat Bob 103, Freedom Performance Declaration turnouts, SE Heavy breather, Andrews 48H cam.
I’ll be getting into that pretty soon. I have been in touch with the tech people and they said use the canned map then if I want to run the auto tune. He also said to run 2 or 3 tanks of gas on the map before deciding to auto tune. He also said to change the throttle setting to “aggressive” using the canned map. Good luck sorting it out.
Dashpot, I have the same issue. They told me to run multiple autotunes by applying after 2-3 runs. I road to match riding conditions and after 1 apply, its like the auto tune just started all over. So I started the auto tune and finish after each run. It ran great and then the stop and go. I couldnt get the bike to lean in stop and go and it was popping like yours. So I went back to base map, where it runs great. Ill ride on that for a few tanks and try another auto tune session and see if I cant get low rpm/tps cleaned up.
One problem with finishing each run is it starts a new map. Im still waiting on V&H tech to get back to me on eliminated unessisary maps. I just just installed pipes and gaskets good, only 4000 Miles on my road king CVO. As well as the fp3, just installed it. Only 1 tank on it so far.
