Default Is this PCV Map Related?

Hey all,
2 weeks ago I removed Fullsac DX Head Pipe and CFR Mufflers
and Installed the V&H Propipe, Got a new Map from Fuelmoto.

Every gear pulls really well until I hit 5th at 2600rpms it will stumble
to 2900rpm then the 57H cam comes on and it pulls like it should.

Is this Map related or something else?

Thanks,

300 rpm stumble? Did it do it before the map change?

Okay, so after a few different Maps, I'm still not sure if I should be looking at something else.

I got a 2nd map from FM and the stumbling was gone. Only to find out when me and my wife went to Open House in York PA, there was now popping on accel in 4th and 5th between 2600-2900 rpms.

I got a 3rd map from FM, did 300 miles on Saturday with my wife and same thing just not as bad.

Is this typical when getting new maps? or should I be looking at other possible problems?

Should it take a few maps to get it right?

It could be an issue with map settings, but, could also be a slight exhaust leak, intake leak etc... The other thing to remember is basic maps are just that... basic. The maps you are getting are probably close, but unless the map is for your exact combination things may be off slightly. Once cams get added to the mix there are a lot of variables that will influence just what fuel, timing etc... parameters the motor is going to want to run strong. A dyno tune with a good tuner should clear everything up. If a dyno tune is not feasible you may want to consider adding Auto Tune. That may help smooth out the issues you are having.

So Neil's points are good. But, once you load the new FM maps, are you doing any Autotunes. The typical Powervision install is to load base map, which should get you close, and then do 3 iterative Autotunes of approximately 20-30mins each, looking to cover as much of the RPM/throttle cells as possible. Each tune should then be compared to the previous tune using WinPV to look at how close percentage values are compared to previous cells. The goal, over the 3 Autotunes is to get all cells to be under a 5% variation in each cell. Usually achievable. Each Autotune is performed on the previous tune so they build on each other and get closer and closer to the final map.

Fuel Moto may ask you to do some logging, which is another feature function of the Powervision and then send them the log. The log can be analyzed and modified to result point issues like popping or throttle flat spots etc, in a tune.

It's two different ways to getting to the same final tune. Neil also mentioned the popping possible being caused by a exhaust leak, so that is something to definitely consider on a new exhaust install. Also, pull your plugs and see how they look? There is another possibility that you could have a sensor failing. I had a sensor fail on my bike this year and got a number of intermittent symptoms, like misfires and spark knock. it showed on the rear plug too and was throwing "cylinder too rich" codes.

I also have the V&H Propipe and am very happy with it.

Are you familiar with the Autotune process? Taking the base map FM provides and a few autotunes should dial you right in.

Not to spend more money on you, but what model bike do you have, year and mileage, and is the engine stock besides the cam and pipes, I assume you have a free flow AC too? I'm wondering if you considered the Dynojet Target Tune feature on that bike to go to the wideband sensors? When one of my sensors failed I decided to go to the Target Tune and it comes with high quality wideband sensors and I was impressed at the overall smoothness and performance improvements.

The problem doesn't happen in all the gears.
When I am riding solo it's fine.
Plugs look good.
I do not have Auto tune.

Did you call Fuel Moto for some troubleshooting help?

I got a map from them for my wood cam it was spot on, a little rich at idle but they trimmed it out and gas smell is gone.

But no, you shouldn't have any hesitation at all...

I didn't call them yet, I have been going back and forth with emails.
Fuel Moto is helping with new maps to try.

1st Map, some hesitation in 4th and 5th 2600-2900 RPM (Solo)
2nd Map, hesitation gone all is good (Solo) few weeks later me and my wife go on trip
bike starts popping on accel 4th and 5th 2600-2900 RPM (2 Up)
3rd Map, less popping in 4th and 5th (2 Up)

Never any issues in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th

I'm sorry I was thinking you had a Powervision, but you have a PC5.. my bad. I don't think the PCV can do logs.

The hesitation is still gone but the popping is there? odd problem, usually popping is a decel issue. No codes?
