If the parts and service people knew what a SERT is and can do, AND could explain it to customers, the widespread ignorance displayed on this and other forums would not occur.
If HD service departments had well-qualified tuners, PCIII's, DTT, and ThunderMax would be insignificant devices in the market place. Their popularity is a testament to the lousy state of qualified tuners at HD dealerships more than any poll or measurement standard.
If the MOCO provided a primer on the ease of using a SERT by the bike's owner, the SERT would be widely used by HD owners.
If bike owners understood the combustion process of their motorcycles, they would laugh at DTT and Thundermax calling their systems "auto-tune" when all they do is "auto fuel managment" (which, at least without long-term useage experience, yet, they do very well.) A so-called "auto-tune" system that doesn't automatically adjust timing for better power and fuel economy, and adjust a/f or timing when detonation occurs is no auto-tune system.
And if purchasers of DTT and ThunderMax took the time to realize that ignition timing is one-half the tuning equation, and their devices don't do that, perhaps they would not be quite so fast to advocate its wide-spread acceptance by others or deride SERT as some HD shell game, incomprehensible tool, or dyno tuners cash cow.
Really, the best things going for PCIII, DTT, and ThunderMax are the MOCO's poor communications, wide-spread dealer incompetence/disinterest, and wide-spread consumer ignorance. And more recently, the '07's super-lean MOCO ECM programming.
Harleypingman I agree 100% and this is the main reason I am taking this poll. I have a passion to change this in the dealerships, Ihad the pleasure with working with the most knowledgable man on this earth (he helped develop it) with the Race Tuner. Now three years later Iwant to take the knowledge I have of the Tuner and give it to the dealers but they have to admit they need help and thats hard for them to do....so this poll might help me put a campaign together that will open the eyes of those wanting to go to the next level.
My bike was tuned by Pikes Peak HD in Colorado Springs. It has a SERT, not a Race Tuner. They used a Dynojet dynomometer.
The tune is perfect. Bikes performs flawlessly in all situations. Not a single caugh or hiccup anywhere. AFR is a very flat line all across the graph. Bike gets around 43mpg on a long trip.
You probably dont want any dealer names but Cape Fear in Fayetteville NC Sucks...All they want is your money no matter what/how they treat you...everyones perception of them is that it isn't about the current customer...There is always another young soldier going to walk in the door with a handful of cash...
Find a dealer that races Harley motorcyles and you will find one that will understand the SERT. I'm from Ohio and we have one of the best tuners
around.
