Let meadd this poll is not to bash the Motor Co. or Dealers....I'm just interested in your opinion.
We have 6 in state HD dealers, none of them have a dynamometer, all of them cringe when you mention SERT or PC III. And invoke the infamous âThat will kill your warrantyâ warning. We have a few Indy shops that have dynos and none of them can be rated as excellent dyno tuners. For those that have access to a real good dyno man treat them right, because the real good ones can be hard to find.
I live in SW Louisiana and there is not a dealer or Indy within a 300 mile radiusI would trust after speaking and visiting their place and asking questions in an attempt to tune my bike with the SERT. And believe me, I traveled some distances in my attempt to get a good tune.[&o] Alot could tune with the PCIII but the SERT was taboo.[>:]
[sm=rant.gif]PS....people offering to SELL a custom SERT map are scamming the person stupid enough to buy it. Unbelievable people would be so naive.[&:]I'davoid that place as well. If you are a "dynotuner" and you actually think selling a SERT map from build to build is a good thing..............LMFAO on that. Of course there is a sucker born every minute.[sm=rant.gif]
Four dealerships close by. 3 out of the 4 I have never heard good results about from people having their bike tuned there using the SERT or a PC. The fourth I just have never heard anything about so no comment. Usually it seems they get charged for an hour of dyno, canned map with two or three adjustments after that (if that many) and send you down the road. Those that don't understand the value of a "detailed" tune don't know any better and take the dealer's word for it that their bike was "dyno tuned". They generally pay for the install of the tuning device and to generate a dyno sheet. Whooppeee!
When they (customers) are turned on to a decent tuner (some of the indys close by) they see what power and efficient running of their engine was not happening due to the HD tuner and they feel taken. Many will just load a canned map themselves after that or go elsewhere besides the local HD shop if they are going to pay for a good dyno tune.
This of course doesn't take into account whether someone was not willing to pay what was necessary to have a tuner, HD or otherwise, get the best out of their build. My experience is that the local shops are so dismissive of constructive criticism...they open the door for you and watch you walk out the door to the local indy with a smile on their face. Thats the reason there is such an aftermarket in the first place.
