did a 95bigbore on my carb streetglide.doesn,t seem to pull like it should at wot.i put in a s/e ignition with a 5 degree retard,is this hurting me with 37 cams?thinking of trying my stock ignition to see the difference.also running a 48 slow and 195 main jet whichseems to be pretty common so i don't think that is the problem.soon i will order a D.T.T. ignition so i can adjust timing.have a run on saturday so i was wondering what to do.thanks for any advice guys
I just converted to carb on my 2000 Road King with 95" motor, and I started at a 48 pilot and 195 main. I'm waiting for my new main jets to arrive because 195 seems too lean, and I live at 5000 ft. If the stock ignition doesn't have a noticable effect on the top end, consider a richer main.
I'm also running 37G cams and a Ness BS with stock head pipes and modified stock mufflers.
your right it could be a little lean with the 195,i will have to try a 205 in it too.i am trying to learn about timing and what is best at what rpm's.just a thought that maybe the 5 degree retard is hurting the 37 cams at wot.since i had to program the s/e ignition on bike, will i have to do the same for stock ignition or will it run by just plugging it back in? thanks for advice, mike
I may be wrong (and hopefully someone will chime in here if I am), but the stock ignition isn't programable, so the timing will be the factory set it came with. Higher compression usually requires retarding the ignition, so you may get some knocking with the stock set-up. I have high comp pistons in my bike and had to go with the most retarded setting on my Twin Tec ignition to eliminate the knock. I'm hoping that getting the jetting where it's supposed to be will allow a little more advance, but we'll see. My jets will be here this afternoon, so hopefully I can give you an update tomorrow.
bluebagger, just came back from a spin on the bike with a 200 main and it pulls much better on top. Haven't had a chance to do a plug chop yet. I've got the TwinTec set to 4 degrees retarded on initial timing (#1 setting), and the #1 setting on the advance curve.
i will try a 200 main, also will pick up 205 just to have also.you know where is a good place to buy a DTT?i would like to get one this week and solve any ignition problems i might have.thanks again..
I have a 205 main as well that I'll be trying this week. Might be a bit much at this altitude. I'm also thinking of picking up a Sportster needle- feels like the midrange could use a little fattening up.
