A couple of weeks ago I came up to a stop signal and the bike suddenly started to misfire. Gave it a bit of throttle to keep the engine running and limped back home. On the way back, it suddenly was firing on both cylinders and then it went back to stuttering and stalling. I figure it was a fuel issue and nothing mechanical.
Since this is above my pay grade, took the bike into the dealer and had them troubleshoot. Came up with one bad injector...which was replaced.
Currently, the bike is running better than it ever has....like it has extra power, more responsive and just a heck of an improvement.
My question....do fuel injectors go bad suddenly or do they lose their ability to function at peak level over time. The sudden improvement in performance has me thinking the injector was an issue that I never noticed.previously.
I went through the same thing you did on a previous bike , it would run great one day and poor the next . Talking with a friend of mine who is a shop manager at my local dealer , injectors get old and weak . They can get plugged up and dirty , even with the proper filtration .
I tested the injectors on my bike and one was intermittently firing , so I replaced both and the bike ran like new again . I could have had them cleaned but being the injectors were more than 10 years old I opted for new . Changed them out myself .
Had 80 thousand miles on the old injectors. Still amazed at how responsive and quicker the bike runs now. Since they replaced the one, going to have the other replaced just for my own peace of mind.
good idea , your bike will probably end up running even better than it does now . Over time , small particles , crud and varnish will build up and plug the injector nozzles causing a uneven spray which causes all sorts of issues , just what you had going on with your bike .
Big debate on this I know , but I put 6oz of seafoam in my tank at the beginning , middle and end the season . I believe it keeps the entire fuel system clean and keeps the injectors flowing properly . Worked for me all these years , since it came out anyway . Also helps with moisture and water in the tank , if that does happen to arise .
Glad to hear your bike is running awesome , or will . Your bike is definitely one of my top 5 favorites on the forum ....
