Someone just told me that the Fuel Injection systems in pre-2002 bikes were problematic and should be avoided. I guess in 2002 they changed manufacturers or systems. Anyone know anything about this?
The older Magnetti-Marelli was a dual port setup that basically operated on engine rpm and throttle position, Then the MOCO went to the Delphi injectors, these injectors received multiple inputs to match the fuel flow to the engines needs.
I havent had any problem with mine, but any changes your are pretty much stuck with a power commander or with a Zippers or S&S solution. I havent made anychanges.

That's pretty much it. Keep it stock, and you should be okay. Build it up like me, and you'll need to make some changes. There is an SERT made for the Magnetti-Marelli, and it works pretty good. However the best thing I did, and the most expensive by the way, was change over to the Zippers Thunder-Max with closed loop autotune.Once you do that, you are running a Zippers Delphi version.
My bike is a 99 RK Classic with a big bore kit and PCIII,bought the bike this way. It was running like crap, wouldn't idle well or start well. Brought it to the shop and after researching the issue he said he had to replace one of the sensors and replaced another one as a precaution. It was then that he told me to avoid pre 2002 models since the FI was more problematic.
