Really considering replacing my 14" Twin Peaks with the Kraus T-Bar setup on my 2016 Street Glide Special. I know part of this process requires removing the ignition switch and fork lock. My question is, will my Thundermax allow for the dealer to perform the "CVO Flash" to my bike?
The CVO flash is flashing the stock ECM which you don't have. You will only need to do the standard power up procedure for the Thundermax for when you disconnect the battery.

Jay, I think you may be misunderstanding what I am trying to accomplish. I need to permanently (not temporarily) remove the ignition switch in order to install the T-Bars. Now, most people (with a stock HD ECM) are able to go to the dealer for a "CVO flash" in order to have a fully operational motorcycle with NO ignition switch. My question is, how can I accomplish this with a Thundermax?

I have learned that the "CVO flash" actually flashes the BCM, not the ECM. At the Harley Davidson service department, they would use their digital technician tool to perform the CVO flash on the BCM. Now, my problem is that the Thundermax will block communication between the BCM and the digital technician. I am wondering if this would work: Ride my bike to HD with the Thundermax installed. Once I arrive in the parking lot, I can take the TMax out and install the factory HD ECM (I'll ride with it in my saddlebag). Once they perform the flash, I can then remove the factory ECM and re-install my Thundermax module. I should then be able to start the bike without the ignition switch and should be able to proceed with the T-Bar install...
I am in this same situation right now with my road glide. I am running a Thundermax Tuner and I want to change to the Kraus bar set up and delete my ignition. I am curious if you were able to this?
I just want to give everyone an update on this thread.
It is not news that the digital technician CANNOT communicate with the BCM while a Thundermax ECM is installed. With that being said, I went to my local HD dealership and told the service manager exactly what I was hoping to accomplish. I explained that I wanted the "CVO flash" performed in order to remove my ignition switch. He knew exactly what I was talking about and we were on the same page until I mentioned my Thundermax. The service manager told me that he was 100% sure that if I did a temporary ECM swap, that as soon as I re-installed the Thundermax it would undo the CVO flash. I kind of pushed him on the topic and he told me that went through this exact scenario before. Anyways, he ended up referring me to a local indy that supposedly would be able to do this strictly with my Thundermax installed only.
When I finally got to this indy, he had almost no idea what I was talking about. He plugged his computer in to attempt making the change, which pretty much resulted in bricking my bike for a few hours. All the electricity would come on, but the run switch would not do anything (the bike couldn't start). Luckily, I had my HD ECM with me in my saddlebag. He went between my Thundermax and my HD ECM multiple times and had some form of tech support on the phone that remotely accessed the bike. Long story short, we ended up succeeding and my bike is not running without the use of my ignition switch and with my Thundermax installed. I'm really not sure what software he was using, I'm assuming techno research. Needless to say, after all this my mapping was blown out so I had to flash a canned map for the ride home.
Now I am just hoping that when I actually go to disconnect the ignition switch wire that won't stimulate some new issue.
Well sorry to hear about your bad luck TWINCAM10353.....sucks. Good to hear some feedback from someone who actually has tried to have this flash performed with the TMAX. So as of now we will be waiting to see if this software flash works when you get the ignition switch removed. Good Luck and hope all works out. Does anyone on this forum have a CVO with a Thundermax?
