2003 Heritage Softail Classic EFI Twin Cam 88 55K miles
I recently diagnosed an electrical wiring issue to one of the injectors on my Heritage. The fraid wire caused the bike to run horribly and basically on one cyclinder. That problem identified, there is the question of whether or not I should replace the injectors which boils down to a $200 replacement cost.
So the topic question comes into play now, do injectors go bad? Should I just replace them as a preventative maintenance procedure or just remove and clean?
Other than that, the bike runs like a dream since I went to the Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioners.
Certainly like any electro mechanical device, injectors can go bad.
In his context of the question, the answer is run them. Obviously any electro-mechanical device can fail, but to replace them as PM is not necessary. There's actually no reason to remove and clean them either due to a bad wire that has been repaired.
Today I put the bike on the lift and got in there. As far as I can tell, there are no "bad" wires and the connections "seem" good. But if the codes threw out that there was a bad connection I have to believe that. Not being something I care to mess with since there are cables and electrical crap involved, I may just past this off to my local HD service team to handle. I just hope I can afford it.
Thanks for all of your input. I'll keep you posted as to what happens.
