Maybe your buddy will let you return it. You could get the harness from Namz ($150), a performance carb instead of a stock one, and the Twin Tec module. But the stock carb will allow you to keep your cruise if it has the connection and OE carbs are pretty cheap.

So buy the Daytona module and call it a day. Also be sure to get the correct Pingel petcock. You will need this kit. It has the adapter fitting for a petcock and the plug for the second line.

Pingel lists this kit for Marelli, but when I converted my 2000 MM to Delphi, I used the Delphi style plug from an 06 softail (I believe) as it had an o-ring like the quick disconnects did. Might want to just verify with them.
