That is a single fire ignition system and the ignition module is behind the points cover most likely a ultima 944 or a dynatek 2000i. Take off then points cover and watch as it runs look for the flashing LED. You cannot just swap front to rear on a single fire system, only on a dual fire system. Then3 posts on the coil is a dead giveaway for the single fire, dual fire has 2 posts.

Always run like that, that's not good. Sounds like the ignition module is working at idle, may not be at WOT but more likely the carb float in the bowl is set too low. This will give you good idle and lower RPM but steadily poorer performance as you twist the throttle.

I wouldn't go any further even trying to guess til that carb is rebuilt., 95% odds that's the problem anyway.
