Electra glide Ultra classic 2008 (TC96) - LIMP MODE
Hi guys, started having problems with my 2008 ultra classic EG.
Especially when the engine is hot, bike is going in limp mode with engine light on, this are the codes that I will get:
P0120 P0122 P0220 P0641 P1511 P2135
- Refreshed all connections with contact cleaner, - replaced all the fuses - read through TT418 bulletin and cheched /greased TPS connector/cables - changed engine temp sensor ( I thought this will solve as the bike get codes only when hot but I still have the problem)
any suggestions guys? I have tools and I like doing thing myself but this thing is getting frustrating. Next step is trying to change the twist grip sensor? In italy it's 180Euros so would be sad to change it without solving the problem.
Start with checking the connectors inside the fairing , if you haven't , then check the connector inside the bar itself , that little connector has a tendency to pull / come lose . It may be possible to pull the tgs out from the end of the bar to see if there is an issue with that connector , otherwise you'll have to de-pin the connector in the fairing to get at it , take lots of pics .
If by chance you have internal wiring , look for a broken wire at the exit point of the bar , could be rather sharp and cut through a wire . With my experience , one broken wire can cause more than one code , especially when it comes to the tgs .
Push back and feel around the connector near the intake. On a buddy's bike ('08 Ultra) there was a broken wire about 4" up from the throttle body. or check with ohmmeter.
also could a tired battery throw this type of codes? I mean the bike is starting fine if used daily ;
but if I let the bike sit down for a week the battery goes down and I need to wake it up with a tender.
edit- just ordered a new battery, It's just a non-sense trying to diagnose a problem with an old and unreliable battery. we will see.
1: Very important the ECM is supplied with proper voltage to operate efficiently.
2: If you have a power commander disconnect it and see if the codes disappear.

I do not have tuners attached.
By the way I literally just installed the new battery, it's under the tender and in about 20 minutes I will go out testing.
