Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
Just installed my stage 1 on my 2020 rgs . S&s sidewinder 2-1, s&s high flow air filter, and Thunder max tuner. Any tips/suggestions for settings? Already set the base map. I do have a little bit of fluctuating idle. Only have maybe 10 miles on it since installed. Hopefully putting more on tomorrow.
Hardest thing to do is simply ride it and let it do its thing initially. It'll tune itself to the settings within the tune. After several hundred-mile runs and writing the changes to the maps, then decide what you would like to change about the tune. Go slow and give Tmax time to adjust to the changes. Many (myself included) want to make changes and "FEEL" the difference. That may come, but first let the map tune to your bike (pipes, injectors, airflow, etc.) No two bikes are the same so the tune needs to adjust to YOUR bike.
My two copper pieces. Others will likely chime in with more useful information. Take time to get to know the system. There's a LOT it can do!

thanks a lot. Thats kinda what I thought, but figured Id ask just in case there was some settings I could do to help get it started.
You should go for several rides before making any adjustments. Don't know if the advice is still the same as it was a few years ago, but it was recommended to me to ride at least 30 miles at a time, changing up speed, gears, rpms, load, etc. After 300 miles take a look at the map. Basically, just have some fun.

According to two of my friends intimately familiar with Thunder Max's anything short of tossing them in a fire while drinking an adult beverage is pointless. Motorcity Harley won't even touch them anymore.
That said, maybe a Dyno tune by someone familiar with the TM is in order.
I'm happy with the TMax and most tuners won't touch them, mostly because they use different parameters than what most systems use. I can say that most of their maps run very rich so you should see some decent get up and go but that cruising area will need some adjustment if you are worried about milage.
I had a TMax on my FB, and I was very happy with it while I ran it.
I ultimately replaced it with a TTS when I did my 107 upgrade, not due to dissatisfaction but because I wanted to have it dyno’d and the tuner I selected used the TTS exclusively.
You gotta ride it, 10 miles ain't nothin. I'm talking a few hundred miles minimum before you write the first AutoMap. You want to get a lot of varying speeds, rpm's, hill climbs, hill descents, etc. TMax has a published instruction sheet that describes exactly what I'm talking about.
Also - any good tuner will work with and welcome TMax. But in your specific case of just pipes and an intake you really don't need a dyno tune the TMax should be able to do everything you need. You have the most simple / common setup there is (a stock engine with a 2-1 and an intake).
Additionally, I've always experienced great customer service with TMax. Don't hesitate to pick up the phone and call them.
