I'm still battling an issue with my bike just randomly cutting off while riding. Changed the ignition switch which made sense, worked fine for multiple rides, then left me stranded again. I just checked codes and the only one I got was B1006, high line voltage. I noticed when revving up bike, headlights dim and guage lights flicker. Tested the battery, 12.6 volts so I know it's good, with bike at idle, about 13.2....revved up to 2000 rpms, only got 13.3 or 4....didn't really go up, shouldn't it hit low 14? It wasn't high voltage, but I'm thinking maybe regulator isn't working, at some times it's low, sometimes it's high? Could it get high enough to completely shut the motor off when riding? I hate electrical demons....I haven't checked stator yet, but I dont have issues with the battery staying charged?
First off , you should go to your " my profile " and add your bike to your signature , it'll help others know what bike your asking your question about .
How did you test the battery ? Fully charged and load tested .
I have only heard of the bike shutting down when it gets over charged to prevent things from being seriously damaged , I could be wrong though .
Your #'s do sound like there's something up with your charging system , at 2000-2500 rpm , you should be in the 14v or higher range , could be a bad regulator or worn / burnt out stator , . These two links will guide you through testing the charging system and each of these components , test each part before you start spending money on things you don't need .
Thanks, I'll read! My bad on the bike, didn't think about it. It's a 2007 Road King Classic. I just tested the battery with a voltmeter and watched the voltage with it off, starting and running. It only dropped to just over 10 volts when starting.
Anything below 10v when hitting the starter would be a sign of a bad cell in the battery , so the battery does sound good , no starting issues , just charging , testing he regulator would be my first choice , then stator .
I would also check all your connections , battery cables , fuses , relays etc , corrosion can be a pain , especially ones that appear inside a relay . I use electrical contact cleaner to get rid of all corrosion , so depending where you are , it could be worse than in another place .
There are also ground points on your bike that should be cleaned , just under the rear of your fuel tank , ahead of the battery , you'll see two grounding posts , check those connections and make sure there are no breaks in the wiring etc or corrosion .
Just in case anyone was wondering, I put a new regulator on the bike. Now when I test the bike voltage, a idle I'm around 13.8 and revved up to around 2000-2500 I'm at about 14.3 or so....which seems to be more in line with what's correct. Also my head lights don't dim or anything like that anymore. I've only been able to go for one ride, about 30 miles, and she ran great, maybe it's in my head, but seemed to run a little better......HOPEFULLY this was fixed....hopefully there wasn't something causing the regulator to go bad......fingers crossed.
I realize it could be probably 100 different things, but I know when I was trying to diagnose, I was reading everyone else's, and hoping someone "had a fix"....so just maybe it'll help someone else...=)
