Well, I've gone through the carb. Both the oil breather pipes off the heads were split, the vacuum port for the charcoal cannister (yep, it's a Kalifornia model) was left open after the lines were removed. The cannister is still there, however. The idle mixture plug was still in place. So, after a trip to the dealer and the hardware store, I have spent a total of $13.56 (eat your heart out FI guys) and have a 190 and a 195 main that turns out doesn't fit my emulsion tube-go figure. I've plugged the vacuum port for the charcoal cannister. The port vents into the throat in front of the throttle plate, behind the slide. Drilled the mixture plug and left the jets alone. I also replaced the oil breather tubes. Bottom line, the bike runs significantly better. I still get some ping, but only after the oil temp gets over 200. Although I didn't get to go on a long ride, the engine oil temp seems to be about 15deg cooler. I'll play with the jets some more once I get some that fit.....

Yes, it 's a wonder it was even running. I was surprised to find the cannister still mounted with some of the plumbing intact. I'm afraid my my friend had some of Temecula'sfinest hacks working on this bike. His intent was good and he paid a lot of money for the work that was done, but the things I have run across as I have been going through this bike is nothing short of pure incompetence. As with all things, his loss is my gain and I will eventually get it all sorted to be the bike it was intended to be.

I spent years as a Mercedes Tech before I went into management. I guess my expectations are too high as I find ignorance is rampant at all levels, dealer and indy combined. I'm trying to be kind as I know a lot of it is lack of training. However, some is a combination of arrogance/stupidity. It's kind of like the guys who stillswear points are better than electronic ignition.
