I have a carbureted 2000 Harley Springer (no tach). It has a single fire Dynatek TC88-2P ignition. I believe this ignition module requires a single fire coil with a primary resistance of less than 1 ohm (emphasis on single fire). My memory fails me, but I recall that about a year ago, I installed a new coil for some unknown reason. I don't know if I might have purchased a single or a double fire coil. The coil I have now has no markings or logos to indicate its type.
I am guessing that the ignition module will only send a single fire signal to the coil, based on the advanced curve, regardless of having either a single or a double fire coil, and that the coil will then send a single spark to each cylinder at tdc. Just a guess. I could be wrong!! Should I leave it alone, or try to find a single fire coil? I may have, in the past, asked a somewhat similar question somewhere else on this forum. If so, forgive me!!

mr. 78 says it all
two post primary is for single fire, aka, both plugs fire, the 3 post primary fires each plug separately.
some ign systems can be selected single/dual and some not. you cannot interchange them due to the 45* separation angle of the crank.
there is very little to be gained for the street other than a smoother idle between the two.
coil resistance is determined by the ignition system used.
