Default Manifold swap on M8 114 advice

Ive done manifold swaps in the past, but it has been awhile, and never on a FI bike.

I'm swapping out the plastic POS for the S&S 55mm.

Yes, I've watched the videos, but I'm always looking for advice from anyone that can advise me on how to avoid stupid mistakes. On top of this, I have large hands (you know what they say....big hands and big feet? Big gloves and big shoes!)

Techniques to "coax" the manifold in and out......new manifold seals like the manual says., or reuse?.......gotchas when removing fuel rail/injectors......how the hell do you get a torque wrench in there to tighten the manifold screws???!!! ( I have the long Allen/ball extensions, but.....)

Any advice is welcome. Thanks!!

If you can secure one of these kits, it makes life easier. Also as far as torquing the manifold to head bolts. I am not sure without some proprietary torque wrench,it's even possible. This is a case for best judgement.

I took a Torx bit that fit the screw that holds it in place and cut it off of the socket so I could use it with a wrench. The clearance between the manifold and the frame is challenging.

@jake24lt Thanks for that suggestion. I do have this coming,
Amazon Amazon
, and hopefully will do the trick. I guess you're right about the propriatary torque wrench. I have various sizes , but none will fit.

1. Absolutely get new seals.
2. I bought a long (about 10 inch) 1/4 ball driver t handle, cut the t off and it welded a socket on it. Made the manifold screws easy peazy.
3. Take the injectors and fuel rail out the left side.
4 follow the manual on the sequence of install it is not intuitive. ... Manifold screws are the last thing you tighten.
5 you don't need to use a torque wrench, just good mechanical judgement. At the angles that the ball driver is working at a torque wrench would be wildly inaccurate anyway.
I highly doubt you will be able to get at all 4 manifold screws with that v twin torque wrench.

When I installed my HPI 62mm intake I found it very helpful that I have a DK Customs tank lift kit on my 2019.
Just that little bit of extra room made that job a bit easier. I suppose you could pull the tank off to get even more clearance but I didn't.

It takes all of 5 minutes to remove the tank.

I could not imagine doing a manifold swap without removing the tank. Might as well do it blindfolded.
