I'm a new member. Been riding Harleys since the late 70s and motorcycles in general since the late 60's. I currently have a 2001 FXDL low rider, a 2000 Springer and a 2007 Ultra. I do all my own maintenance and repairs.

Which brings me to a question that perhaps someone can help with. My 2001 FXDL Low rider Twin cam 88 starts then dies. I place the ignition switch in the ignition position, the Off/Run switch to Run, the check engine light will illuminate for 4 seconds then turn off, then I hit starter switch. The engine runs for a few seconds then dies. If I flip the Off/Run switch to the off position then back to Run, it will start and then die again. If I try to start it without cycling the Off/Run switch, it will not start. It is not a fuel flow problem. I replaced the spark plugs and placed spark testers on each plug wire. With the ignition switch in the ignition position, the off/run switch in the RUN position the engine will start, I see the spark then it loses spark and the engine stalls out. Once again it will not start again unless I recycle the Off/Run switch. My first thought was the crank position sensor. Took it out and it was clean, no sludge. Second thought is the bank angle sensor in the TSM, however, the starter functions and the bike has not been over the 45 degree limit. As far as I know the Bank Angle sensor will also prevent the starter from working as well as the coils but that isn't the case here. Could it be the MAP sensor? I'll be checking the ECM today to see if it's throwing a code.

I'd appreciate any input anyone can provide.

@Wzimme I have moved this thread from the Welcome section to the Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel Injection section as it is a more appropriate area for your topic.

The Welcome section is more for introducing yourself & letting other forum members know what Harley Davidson you own. Please feel free to post a new thread back in the Welcome area to introduce yourself.

I don't have a manual or even see a FI for a FXDL Dyna low rider.

However, all that reset on the switch, does it have a non OEM tuner?

The BAS in the TSM won't stop cranking on a 2001. Look at the wiring diagram.. If you probe pin 10 on the ICM (not ecm) black connector, voltage should stay low (less than a volt)..

Look at the plugs to see if they are wet, if the bike still has a vacuum controlled petcock the diaphragm may be punctured.
