Hello everyone, I am new to the HD scene so I really appreciate all the helps and recommendation
The other day i was riding my 21 sportster S. i turned the bike off at the traffic light to stop the engine noise then turn it on instantly to skip all the pin code, waiting for the screen to appear kinda thing.
The screen stays on for about 2-3 second before shutting off completely.
My friend and I decided to put the bike in neutral and push it on the road. After about 10 minutes of pushing, the screen suddenly appear, no pin required and i was able to drive home.
My dumbass deccided to turn the bike off and on again and the same issue appear.
I've tried keyless FOB (doesnt work), putting the FOB close to the bike but no connection(i hear a click by the seating area every time i turn on/off the killswitch), (I also replaced the fob battery),
Ive already checked the battery (removed, charged, and reinstalled) its showing over 13V, which is healthy
If anyone with experience with this model knows how to fix it, please help me out.
Thank you everyone, thank you to the forum!
Hello. I just searched the term cranking and turning over. My bike doesnt do any of that when turn the kill switch on. All i hear is one CLICK sound when i turn kill switch on, and one CLICK sound when i turn the kill switch off, still nothing on the screen
Terms can get deep. To me turning over and cranking describe the same thing. You hit the start button and starter turns over or cranks the gas motor.
So, you are saying the display is not working? Then I would assume...
After putting it in netural and pulling in clutch lever. Nothing is gong to happen when you push the start button?
Obviously, also, your not going to read codes..
I was watching some YouTube to update my old processor on the tec in that Harley. That ABS and stability control sounds fantastic... To be able to ****** down on the brake lever and press brake pedal and know its going to brake like a modern ABS and stability control in a car is a life saver.
You may have good sitting voltage reading, but what really matters is the battery power under load. You have to get it load tested. Take it to a parts store and they will do that. If it's the original battery it might be toast. You also need to check the other ends of the battery cable, especially the ground. They have to be clean and tight.
BTW, shutting off the bike while you're sitting in traffic is never a good idea. If you need to move quickly to avoid an accident, especially from the rear, you won't be ready for any evasive maneuvering.

Your Key FOB may have a bad battery in it. Open the case and check the battery voltage, if it's 2.9 or lower you need a new one.
yeah vietnamese traffic is just always jammed up, so i thought to reduce heat and exhaust noise i' turn it off. Definitely learned that the hard way.
thanks for the tip, i'll probably check in with with a shop to see what diagnose.
Small update
i read on the user manual and one of the cause of the bike not working could be either a burnt fuse or a broken relay, not sure how to check it though.
It could be my FOB as Mr Steve Cole reply (so changing to a new FOB is an option)
i called up the HD service shop, they said that the kill switch is burned. However, the kill switch comes with the entire right handle so i would have to replace the entire right handlebar, which is about $600
so you are cycling power via the bar switch? if so, the computer may be going into fault mode and may need to be reset vis the key switch if it has one, if not via the fob. if so, the battery in it could be an issue, some systems also contains an RF chip in the fob that can start a machine if held close to a sensor. maybe the ecu has a time out and time must pass to reset, a anti-theft sorta thing.
