Chrome Voltage Regulator

I am doing more chrome addition to my Fat Boy most recently a chrome voltage regulator. A friend who is chummy with a couple HD techs says they told him that they have seen more frequent failures with chrome regulators than stock. Doesn't make sense unless the chrome unit is produced by another manufacturer than is the stock. Thanks for this and all past help, great group here. Ed

The problem with a chrome regulator or chrome cover is that the unit is more likely to overheat causing premature failure.

The chrome does not dissapate the heat as well so they end up running much hotter than a a non chrome unit.

Harley changed vendors in 1991 from the Phelon Co[SP] to Tympanium,better diodes,different body to withstand more vibration etc.Not aware of any changes since then.Not sure who makes AM reg's......Good point from the HDwrench poster
