When I got my 05 wide glide and was thinking about how I could chrome it up a bit, I saw all kinds of after market stuff. Even though I never saw anything (at first) I thought the way the voltage regulator sits, it is prime for chrome. Because nothing popped up right away it was 2 months before actually came across a cover for the regulator from Harley that did not impress me much. While on Ebay I found sellers with chrome plated regulators. I passed on the covers and went with the original HD chrome plated that I do not see on the Harley site.
Don't know why. They just seem to be selling the covers.
Anyway, wow, what a difference the front end looks with it.
Can't recall the reason, but years ago the advice was not to get the chromed voltage regulator since they burnt out way faster than the black stock version. Don't know if this was true or not but I avoided it.
Hope your's works well without problems. Agree that it does look good.

True I went through 2 before going back to the black stock reg, its up front and finned for a reason.
How fast did they burn out?
How many miles were you able to log before trouble called?
As for locating parts, I have the paper catalog and I just assumed it was a duplicate of the online site. Now knowing it's not, I will be relying on it more than the HD site. thanks for that tip.
As pretty as it looks, chrome actually retains heat. The fins (heat sink) are supposed to allow ambient air to more surface area to help cool the regulator. The chrome cover for the 05's was under a recall, seems the fender from the front wheel would some how catch on the cover, could have been the FXD's with this problem, shorter wheel base. I have a cover on my Lowrider with no problems.
I have over 20K on my chrome regulator and it still works great!I didn't get the cover cuz I thought it may hold the heat in more than the chrome regulator.
