sert error message
Mud,
When you first launch the Data Mode program, click on Help.
There is an explanation in the help information that talks about bus access.
I had looked in there and missed this.
I havetried enabling exclusive bus access,
and PCM sync was lost immediately.
I'm still having only 60-70% success rate.
Always loses sync at a diiferent point in the recording of data.
I don't think it's a sleep issue,
suspect connection or vibration/bump.

I hope you can fix the problem. Sometimes, you can go to the power management in your computer and ensure that the usb and other IO ports never have power taken from them. You can do that from device manager, right click on the hardware, goto properties then power management. Uncheck the box allowing the computer to turn off power to this device. I doubt thought that this will fix is the issue you are fighting.
I am having a real issue with recording myself. I made a post yesterday, but briefly, when I hook up my computer and SERT to my bike, I can get the ECM info, but when I start the bike, it runs really rough and very abnormal.
I am going to try a different laptop this afternoon and see if there is any improvement. Right now, when I start the bike, the check engine light cycles on and off and the alarm light glows on most of the time. Plus as I said earlier, the bike runs roughly while the sert and computer is plugged into the ecm. It will even stall at low RMS. This aint right. Go figure. Any ideas?
Thanks
I meant to ask you earlier....when you perform your data collection rides, do you notice whether or not the engine light flashes on and off irregularly? Mine does, and I was just wondering if this is a normal occurance indicating that the ECM is sending data streams through the port connection.
Thanks,
Joe

I see from another post your different laptop
is making some progress with your issue.

Vibration can sure cause havoc when messin' with these delicate computers and their not so stout connections. But my engine light coming on and off at irregular intervals does not result in any interrupted data flow to the computer...that I can tell. To say it another way, I do not lose data flow to the computer when this is happening.
I am using the current J version software, and I know for sure that the ECM was programmed with an earlier version, but I can't really determine if this could be part of the issue or not. Anyway, thanks. Joe
The serial port does not have a power managment option like the USB hubs do. If you right-click on one of your usb HUBS in the hardware list, and go to Properties, you will see a "power managment" tab. It' s there you can uncheck the box allowing the computer to turn off this port.
So, the serial port will be hot or active all the time. That's why serial port (and parallel port....printer) connected devices are not "hot swappable" as is the case with USB devices. You can unplug a USB device from the computers usb port with the computer running and then plug in another USB device in the same or different usb port on your computer and the computer does not mind at all.
Try that with a serial port and all hell breaks loose. So it's a good idea to always have your serial cables plugged into the back of the computer and the other side of the SERT 's cable plugged into the data dongle on the bike BEFORE you boot up the computer.
I wish I knew why my engine light is coming on during data runs...hummmm
Regards,
Joe
