Eletrical Problem FLHTC
I tried to start the bike and starter starts chattering but after a couple attempts it would grab and turn over once or twice. I never did get it fired up. After 5 or 6 attempts, my CLUTCH cable wasHOT to the touch at the handle bar area and I think something melted because it stick pulled in. Maybe a ground cable came off and the clutch cable was the only return path. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've never heard that, but your assessment sounds reasonable. Check the ground cable. On my FLHT, it is under the bike, if I recall. Also sounds like you'll need a new clutch cable.

This is a very good possibility. I have had shifter cables weld together like that when the ground strap has been damaged or removed by someone.
It becomes the new return path as you suggest. I would give the electrical system a good inspection and make sure all my grounding points are clean and tight.
I would also make sure all the battery connections and starter connections are clean and tight as well. After you track down the cause and correct it. You`ll need a new clutch cable as well....[:@]
