To solve a problem on my Sportster I need to find a smaller battery. It's not an electrical problem, I just want to redo some panels. I've heard tht the V-rod battery is smaller, but I wanted to ask around to see what you guys thought might be a smaller battery.
I can't help you since I don't know what shape, size or cold cranking amps you need for your ride, but if you go to Sears they have a decent catologue of batteries. Or go to Tractor Supply. They also have a selection of lawn tractor batteries that might fit your needs. You may not get the life, but you get the look you're after.
*12 volt 18 amp hour
*Powerful 310 cold cranking amps
*Replaces YTX20-BS battery
*6 7/8"L x 3 7/16"W x 6 1/8"H
*Positive terminal on left
Just go to Google.com, and put in motorcycle batteries. Surf the specs and find the size you want. Be very careful since you want to be sure the battery is not jumping around when you ride- I wore a hole in one once, and made a hell of a mess of my bikes paint and parts (It was a Honda- so no great loss)

Thanks for the info guys and don't worry, I'm pretty good at fabrication. I know I have to rebuild the battery box. I plan to move the connectors to the outside and either mount them on the face or top. But right now the length is my main concern. I need to lose at least ½â to redo the panels, 5/8â would be better. Iâll do the first panels in fiberglass and use those to make a pattern to form them in metal. Iâm still not totally sure how to fasten them, but I might borrow some trick from the 04-05 Sportster for the no bolt look.
