starter problem
Hit the starter,it turns over a couple times and than disengages ?
After about 5 hits it will start. This is hot or cold.
Is this an internal starter problem ?
If so, and I have to remove it for repairs can removal be done with oil tank on ?

Not familiar with the your bike but I doubt it's the actual starter itself. It will most likely be a relay or solinoid that's not holding the connection. Try a stethoscope or whatever homemade thing you can whip up and listen to these components to find out which one is disconnecting. Check all the electrical connections too.As far as taking the starter out without the oil tank out, I looked a my 07fxstc the other day and I don't think it will come out unless you swear a lot. Sometimes it's just easier and faster to make the required room ahead of time. Again, not totally familiar with the 05, so your starter may have more room to come out.
