Default MAP sensor function

Hi I have an 05 dyna glide which I have changed from fuel injection to a carb. It has a stage 1 s.eagle air filter and exhaust but apart from that is stock. I was unsure whether or not I would have to change the stockECM to get the ignition to workso having installed the carb (which is a cv 40 correctly jetted for stage 1), I pressed the button and hey presto she ran. I have done around 500 miles and all seems fine. it's a little down on power in the mid range but pulls to 105mph plus which is about right. My local harley dealer had it on his electronic calibration machine to see if the timing was ok and he said it was although it also gave a reading of 'MAP sensor open' If your wondering how I installed the map sensor I used a carb manifold with a hole for a vacuum switch and the EFI MAP sensor fitted straight in. I had to make a little 'z' clip to hold it in place. So I have a question for you. If the ECM is reading MAP sensor open how come the bikes ignition appears to be behaving itself? Shouldn't the timing be out? Is there a default map inside the ECM? Any advise you could give would be greatly appreciated. Best regards. Dennis H.

Default RE: MAP sensor function

Yes, it goes to default timing tableif a MAP sensor error. I'm not sure what the default valueis for your bike but it is usually a fixed, conservative timing advancevalue to safely get you and your bikehome or to a shop. If you correct the problem you should notice an improvement in performance.
