Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I have the software from the N disc installed right now on my computer. Under ECM Tuning Constants, you are allowed to change the injector size, and engine discplacement. What effects would there be, if you took a map meant for the 103", and simply changed the displacement to 96", and used it in the 96" motor?
Let me answer that like this: If you told the ECM it was a bigger engine (by increasing the cubic inches) it would richen the map globally because the ECM sees more volume to fill with the desired AFR in the map.
If you make the injector size larger or smaller it will effect the fuel delivery globally also. If you tell the ECM it has a larger injector but you don't install a larger injector the AFRwill get leaner globally...and the opposite is true if you say it has a smaller Injector the AFR will get richer because the ECM will keep the small injector open longer to achieve the requested AFR in the map, if a larger injector is programed in the ECM will shut it down quicker to achieve your desired AFR in the map.
Ok, well lets try this. Im going with 255 cams on an 07 model SG 96". HD doesnt have a canned map avail for this, however map #69 176MS003 which is the 103 stage 2 is available. I wondered if I could go with that map, and go into the constants table, and make it 96" instead, and have it be somewhat close. Cant be any further off then the download Im running with Rineharts now can it?
Problem with that is the 255 cam breaths VERY well in the 2000 to 3500 rpm range and all other S/Ecams breath the best from 3000 to 4500 so with your idea the bike will be lean down low and too rich up top. If your getting it dialed in by a good tuner there shouldn't be a problem but to run as a canned map.....huh...not too sure I would do that.
