Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I have an 08 RG with Rush 2 inch slipons, SE aircleaner, and SERT.
I realize that the only way to properly tune my bike isa dyno with a qualified tuner. Thats about $450.00 here locally. I simply do not have the funds to do that right now, besides I like to "tinker"
With no fuel management, just the slipons and AC the bike ran pretty good but backfired on decel bad.
I installed the #100 (200TL001-A0.MT6) canned map. Bike now runs very well with slight backfire but idles too high and seems to go flat in the midrange (winding out 2nd gear espicially).
With the understanding that a dyno and certified tuner is the proper answer, what can I tweek to make it run a little better until I can afford a proper tune (probably some time in March)? I am not afraid to experiment with the tables, just need a little guidance.
You can start out by maxing out the CLB tables to 798 and that should take care of your decel popping. As for your high idle problem I will let someone else explain on how to adjust that due to my lack of experience in that part of SERT.
Did you max out the CLB tables? I don't know much about the tuning but do know most guys using map 100 who arent knowledgable about how to tune are all maxxing the tha clb's. Set em to 798. Doubt this will help your idle but I really don'tunderstand the relationship of all the tuning aspects. It only takes a couple minutes to try it.
Thanks guys,
I will max out those tables and give it a try. There are also a couple "idle" tables that I will play with. Only takes a few minutes to try.
Let the fun begin,

Just don't set the idle too low for proper oil pressure.
What is you definition of high idle. Is this after the bike is warmed up, or during reg riding. What is your definition of high idle? Most of the newer bike have a higher idle. If you go through adavance settings in there is idle speed. The program will show celicus temp and coresponding rpm adjust accordingly. Try that first and see how it does.
Register for their forum site and go to the "Ask Mike" section and post your configuration including part numbers. They will answer your post in 1-2 days. Mike Stegman is their tuning expert and they sell dyno maps for $50 that you can load in your SERT that should get you very close if they have tuned a bike like yours with a similar configuration. Very nice people.
Any time that you burn a new map, the main Learned VE table is reset to 0 everywhere. It will take a couple of hundred miles for this table to rebuild. So back to back testing of canned maps is difficult on a Harley with 02s connected. With the o2's disconnected or overridden in the code, the bike will not self tune and will just stay at thebase tune. This self tuning will only happen in the closed loop section of the maps.
As a rule of thumb these motors go
above 80 kpa at about 50% throttle
above 70 kpa at about 25% throttle
above60 kpa at about 15% throttle
