Starter problem
1988 flhtc when the starter button is pressed the starter engages and starts to turn the engine over very slow. When the button is let go the starter stays engaged even when the ignition switch is turned off. It finily drops out after a few seconds. I have tried a new battery, rebuilt starter, and rebuilt solinoide, could I have gotten a bad battery. I have not tried to jump start it yet.

Did it do this before or after the new batt? Have you checked, cleaned and tightened your battery cables at batt, solenoid and starter? That's a good place to start. What voltage is the battery at before you press starter, and after when it is "stuck". If every thing checks out, check that the solenoid is not binding when it engages the ring gear. As long as it is engaged, voltage is going to starter. That's all I can think of now, Good Luck.

Doesn't sound like the battery is the problem. Seems like the solenoid is physically jamming at the ring gear, a bent starter shaft will also do the same thing. I suspect a combination of these elements are causing the problem. Let us know if you find any of the above situations. Good Luck!
