I got my 99 E-Glide out last weekend after it had been parked for about 6 weeks. I fired up rode down to street and back, loaded up my daughter and made it about three blocks and the engine died just as though I had turned off the switch. After checking to see if I had spark, I turned off the ignition, turned it back on and the engine started. It would been for a few seconds and then die. The only way to restart it would be to turn the ignition switch off and then on again.
I finally limped back home and found I could jiggle the switch a little and get it to start. Well today I bought a new switch $113. Installed it and everthing seemed great. Feeling proud of myself for my great diagnostic skills, off I went. This time I made it about 4 blocks and then repeated the same scene as last weekend. I can toggle switch and restart it. But it dies within seconds. It seems to die as soon as theENGINE light goes out. The lights and accesories do not go off. Just the ignition.
ANY IDEAS? PLEASE HELP, I AM SURE WANTING TO GO ON A 300 MILE TOUR TOMMOROW!
I got it fixed. It was the bank angle sensor. It's function is to kill the ignition if you lay the bike over. It is located under the left side panel. I found that you can unplug it and it will bypass. Anyway I un plugged it, rode my bike 20 mi to HD shop with check engine light on. There I bought a new one $59 installed it and rode home. Hope this helps someone else.
