Maybe this was asked before, I couldn't find it so I will risk being called names and ask again..The red ENGINE light came on in the middle of my ride today..Anything I can do to find out what caused this?

 

press and hold odometer rest button
turn ignition sw. to ignition (make sure kill switch is in run position)

"diag" appears in odometer window

press and release reset switch
PSStb appears
P should be flashing

press reset switch for more than 5 seconds

code is displayed (or none if no codes present)

press and release switch again to see if more codes are present.

if no more codes present "end" will appear

to clear DST's press an hold reset for more than 5 seconds

to exit without clearing, press and release the reset switch, turn off ignition

once you have the code, post it back up here, anyone with an electrical manual can look it up.

I had the same thing up here in Sturgis, they checked for two days and finally tracked it to a broken wire in the wiring bundle on the frame between gas tank and fairing. Mighr want to check there.

I've got an 08 Ultra and the check engine light has come on twice. Each time it came on my cruise control would not work. Both times it was a wire in the cruise control switch housing.
