I'm getting about 165 miles to the tank before my low fuel light come on. It strikes my as rather low. I bought my bike off of a guy that had some dyno tuning done with 1600 miles on it. He gave me some paperwork from the tech that shows my fuel/air mix at about 12 to 1. The bike runs strong with no issues other than the mileage. I realize that there is some mileage sacrifice for performance but I sense this may be a little out of line. My only mods I list in my sig below. Is this ratio normal or am I running too rich.
When you get 165 miles to the tank, how many gallons are you putting back in? Divide the miles by the number of gallons you put back in and you will know what mpg you are receiving. Until that is known you probably wont get an answer you are looking for.
The 12 to 1 is most likly only at WOT(Wide Open Throttle) and has very little to do with gas milage unless you beat it to death. The gas mileage is all in the midrange where all the difficult (time consuming) mapping/tuning is done.
The tuner I used (PCIII) said he sees variations between high thirties and about 42 with 45MPG being the best with a prudent throttle hand.
Anecdotal but probably right on. Mine gets about 40-42 now, was getting close to fifty before the PCIII and running pretty lean. Power is much better now, almost everywhere and there is a milage/power and temperature tradeoff here.
You have to convert that back into US gallons as well when doing a mileage check so everyone is on the same page with mpg. Fill the tank right to the neck. Trip odemeter to 0. Whether you ride to burn up half a tank or back to warning lamp don't matter other than the more you burn off the more accurate it will be. When you get gas, write down the reading on the odemter and take note of how many liters it took to once again fill it to the neck. For one US gallon there are 3.785 liters. Convert your liters into US gallons and kilometers back to miles 1 mile =1.609 kilometers and devide the miles by the gallons= mpg. Ron
Thanks for the reply people. I will take note of my next fill vs mileage logged on my trip OD.
An obvious move I should have done before my post. Please forgive my ignorance, This is my first HD. I bought it last October with the mods on it already. The learning curve is huge (for me anyway) regarding stock vs adding mods, terminology, and what to expect from the changes. This site has been invaluable to me as far as info goes and the people have been great!
