Default Need Help With some Wiring!!!



Hey Everyone,I am new to this site it is my first post,let's give it a shot. I am in the process of redoing my 2004 xl883 sportster.I am just about done,but I have run into a wall with the rear wiring.I removed the stock brakelight assembly,and want to re-wire up Brake/running lights and turn sig. I have a wad of wires I need help identifying. If anyone could give me any info It would be great(I am trying to avoid buying a 40.00 manual) THANKS for any info.

My wad of wires has


Brown wire-

Purple wire-

Black wire-

Blue wire-

Orange/White wire-

Red/Yellow wire-

Believe it or not you don't have to buy the manuals. Most Public Libraries have the technical manuals for cars, boats, motorcycles, etc. Just sit down and find the wiring print you need and make a copy of it and take it home. Basically each bulb needs a ground connected and a 12V connection to light. Sometimes they don't need a ground wire because they actually ground through the mounting bracket to the frame. Remember you have single element and double element bulbs. Typically the brake light is also a running light at night so it is a dual element bulb and the turn signals don't. Good luck.

My wad of wires has


Brown wire-Positive for Right turn signal

Purple wire-Positive for left turn signal

Black wire-Ground

Blue wire-Positive for the running light

Orange/White wire-Acessory light wire. This will be used for the tail light on international bikes for the marker light function, it will be hot when the bike is put in accessory mode. It is not utilized on domestic bikes.

Red/Yellow wire-Brake light positve
