TMAX install issue
I installed the software on my laptop, and was going to look at maps before I installed the hardware, but the program won't open.
It says "The Software has not been properly installed. Please Reinstall." I have reinstalled, restarted... I have done it all.
Is this just because it has not been linked to the TMAX unit yet, or am I borked? I think maybe it just wont work unless it is connected to a TMAX unit, but the last thing I want is to install it, and then have a bike that doesn't work because the software won't open.
You do not need to link to view any maps etc.
Did you use the disk to install, or did you pull from the Thunder-Max site? I would suggest pulling it down from Thunder-max, as you can get the latest version.
There are some extra folders that get created that you have to manually delete if reinstalling. Zippers sent me the following directions:
Completely removing the SmartLinkIV program after a faulty install
Save any custom maps before removing SmartlinkIV software.
Go to the control panel and select add and remove programs.
The programs are in alphabetic order, find SmartlinkIV Zippers and click on the (Change/Remove) button.
This will open a window with three selections, Modify, Repair and remove, select (Remove).
Another window will appear asking if you are sure you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its features, select OK.
After the install shield removes SmartlinkIV delete the SmartlinkIV icon from your desktop.
Re-start your computer.
After your computer re-starts you want to make sure all remaining files have been deleted.
Click on youâre âMy Computerâ icon on your desktop, select your C drive and then select the âProgram Filesâ folder. If there is a folder named (Thunder Heart) delete it and then close that window.
Click on you My Computer icon again but, this time select (Shared Documents) if you see a Thunder Heart folder there, delete it also.
After you have done this you will be ready to re-install your SmartlinkIV software on your computer again.
What Windows OS are you using? Did you catch the special instructions for Vista?

There is just something about my main laptop that doesn't let the TMAX software install. I just wish I could get it to work on this laptop, as it is the only one I have with a serial port.
I got it running on my other laptop though, just sucks cause that is my work laptop, so it will be a pain if I ever need to remap. Hopefully I'll have it all installed on the bike this weekend.
