Something I noticed the other day while playing with my infared thermometer. One cylinder (I think the front) was colder than the other by about 40-50 degrees!! This was at idle in the yard. A friend of mine said maybe one of the plugs was bad, but they are brand new HD plugs, with only 1000 miles on them. Upon inspection, both plugs look the same. Lightly colored tan (IIRC).
The bike is stock, and runs 93 octane. Gap is set at .038". Bike has 24,000 miles on it. No check engine light. No codes. Wires seem to be in good shape. Bike had the tank removed for service before I got the bike, so I wonder if they messed something up under there?
You don't say how your bike is running. It's normal for the front cylinder to be cooler than the rear; I can't say by how much. If it's running fine, stop pointing the infrared thermometer at your bike.
If you want it to run cooler, ride it. It's an air coolled engine and there's not much air moving past the cylinders sitting still idling in the driveway. The rear will always be hotter than the front, can't fix that.
