Regarding my post #8 this thread, I talked to Bill @ Zipper's about my bad 4.8 firmware upgrade and he assured me I had a loose battery cable. He said he sees this in 7 out of 10 bikes. So I checked it out and sure enough, both of my cables were loose. I have since upgraded to 4.8, reloaded map 447 and all is well. Bill recommends you check your battery terminals at each oil change. FYI
what does he see on the other 3 out of 10 bikes for this issue?
I would tend to agree somewhat with a possible power interupt from a poorly connected battery cable. These battery lugs out and out suck. Over time the lead compresses and it's not tight any more. Never ending process, and I agree with check them at regular intervals.
Ron
so the other 3 tight cables were not the cause and it was an issue with the ecm
Maybe I didn't write this correctly. Bill said based on all the bikes he's worked on, 7 out of 10 have loose battery cables. Nothing to do with any problems, just the cables are loose. When the Tmax has a power interrupt it needs to be re-initialized, with loose cables you don't know when you have had an outage. Apparently it occured for me when I did the firmware upgrade. It was easy enough to try, I tightened the cables, did the firmware upgrade, loaded the map new, and now it is trouble free. So for me the issue with the firmware upgrade was loose battery cables. May be different for you. Just passing the word along....be sure your cables stay tight.
thanks and i did check the cables and both could use a 1/4 turn. i dont call it loose but it was a hot humid day and that may have caused it. they are both tight now and yes when i replace the battery i will be getting a better cable connection from a third party battery
I got a very nice email from Randy at Tmax and seems there are a few that still have a ghost. the fix so far is to turn off and back on the ignition. i still love my Tmax
