Ok..I've had time to digest this...my take on the article..don't change a thing on the new bikes..(or cars and trucks)..if it's to hot (to bad)..not enough power (to bad)..no IED's, exhaust, intake, or anything else....even adding chrome parts....
For the life of the motor, as well as for good performances, they go one way. For the emission standards they have to make a 90° turn. And that is what gives Harley a hard time. It keeps getting harder, since they have to reach the standards with an old concept (air cooled, long stroke, big piston). To give us the performance we want, \\;within the emission limitations, they have to build bigger engines. But we will not tolerate \\;watercooling or other changes to the pop-pop pop-pop concept. So \\;HD is squeezed between the customer and the law. Therefore they have to build engines that run to hot, with not enough torque. And it is up to us to cheat and make things work the way we want them to work. \\;
Remember the days before injection engines. A few years ago, I bought a carb Sportster, and the first thing my dealer advised was to remove the hidden plug that covered the fuel*air mixture screw, and change the AFR. He blamed the restricted Californian environmental standards for the limited performances. No closed or open loop in those days, just give it a little extra food all the way. And it keeps getting worse.
As long as we keep on dreaming about drum-brakes, but want the performance of a four-piston disk-brake, Harley Davidson tries to give us what we want. But in my opinion it will not take \\;15 more years before the story ends.
BMW went from aircooled boxers to the oilheads, a modern version of the old boxer. And the BMW-public accepted the changes. Perfect results with the adaptive fueling.
I can post reply's with more than one line, the forum works again, that is why I keep going on
BlaBlaBla
Your doing good LoMax...the end is near.... \\;I have a 07 Ford 150..I read the post on how to get more power, etc....then it's "my trans won't work", etc...and yes, I remember the carb days..I just took them off and sold them for a 100 bucks and installed a S &\\; S...made to bike go real fast...[:-]....I kinda started this post for a place for Glens to chime in and tell us more about how these sensors can be bypassed... \\;Post away guys...if ya need to bring up your kids or something, I don't care...we'll piece this together...[8D]
That is really just a combination of model based engine management and getting good at automaticly reading data logs. \\;This all gets messy when the motor gets into the fairly dynamic ranges of the power band. \\;Way cool stuff.
I kinda started this post for a place for Glens to chime in and tell us more about how these sensors can be bypassed.
Can you be more specific?
The article you linked-to is pretty old. I assume it was something you came across while googling adaptive fueling. I believe that group at Purdue have since done work with artificial intelligence trying various things with diesel engine computer modeling pertaining to EFI. They are less than an hour from me.
I hate to do this a little at a time cause my brain cannot stay focused long enough...I'm retired.....but, I was looking for a newer version of an article about adaptive fueling...got one???
