If it's only after long drives then it's likely a loose connection. The ecm starts with the IAC in a known position then counts steps from there. So if the connection is loose some of the steps the ecm told the IAC to make don't get made. So over time if it's losing more opening steps than closing it can end up closing the IAC when it thinks it is partially open. Stopping the bike, turn it off and turning it back on should fix it since the ecm recalibrates it when you turn the ignition off.
If happens all the time then you need to pull the IAC, clean the threads on the pintel and spray some carb cleaner in that passage to clear the gunk out of it. If it's only after riding for awhile then you need to pull the connector off and tighten the female part so it makes a better connection. You might clean it too to make sure you get a good connection.
Now if an '02 doesn't have an IAC then just ignore that
I'm pretty certain it has an ecm and if so then it has to control the air flow into the engine. It might actually work the throttle plate directly. Alternatively, even if you have an IAC, you might have a really dirty filter element on the ac. If you don't have a service manual it would be a good idea to get one. It will tell you if you have an IAC, how to identify it, remove it, install it and how to clean the ac. Otherwise take it to a shop and have it repaired.
