I was just looking at the map 244 thinking it may work better for me but I'm not sure. It looks like they lean out the mixture in the lower rpm ranges which seems counter productive. I would think that would induce pinging but what do I know?! I'm not really happy with the 524 map. I could have used extra fuel on some recent trips. I would like to change my current maps or reload but which one. And which way is better? Reload or alter exsisting? Man my brain is fried!!!!
I would NOT change maps unless you KNOW a particular map ran better.
All changing will do is introduce NEW and DIFFERENT conditions.
Use the new software to send your current module map/configuration to TMax support and describe your issues in DETAIL.
I've heard they are having greater success in correcting issues this way.

The command is under the HELP menu.....
"Prepare and send, Module Data Email"
The other thing is if you use the command to send it to TMax then in your SEND folder of your eMail you will have a copy of the file (attached to the email) you can send to ANYBODY.

I will work on it in the next few days. I just wish I had a bit more on top when pulling grades when loaded. It runs well otherwise. Occasional pinging but I think that has more to do with gas quality. I can't always fill at the same stations.
Unfortunately, you must be a fussy bastard like me. In that case, the only way to make it right is to custom tune it to your driving habbits. Case in point is my softail custom with map #401. Sure I could have tried all the 400 series maps, but there's not enough dif between them to waist time with. While this map worked super in the cooler weather, it sucked in hot humid high load conditions when I gave it a hand full Eventually over the season the conditons of low rpm lean popping and pinging were tuned out. Economy was retained in my cruising range as well. Hot and cold starts were tweeked along the way, with one exception of a lumpy run for 5 seconds after the first 5 seconds of running of a cold start. The afr vrs engine temp needs a bit more dialing in at some point, but it's so minor I just can't be bothered to link up for it only. The point is, after getting all the results with changing the original 401, there is not one canned map that will make the bike run as what I have now. I consider most maps as a starting point, and while some may have great success with them as is, load the same map in another bike with a different rider it may need some adjustments to suit the way they ride, or the climate they ride in. With the beauty of Smartlink, it's free and possible to get what you want.

I had the same problem with map 524. Grab a handful of throttle and get nothing but pinging until I back off and roll on smoothly. I loaded 544 and that problem is gone. Seems like the fuel and timing changes they made deal with the heavier, loaded down bikes better. It certainly runs better with my 320# fat a$$ on it since loading 544.
Thanks for the info. I'm a big guy too and noticed on my Sturgis trip that the bike ran well but not much power near the top end. And Ron, you are right about the fussy part. I just want to get dialed in a bit better. I just want to make sure that if I want to increase the fuel near the top end that one way is better than the other. I was wondering if it would be better to just load the richer map than to go through and change each page in the exsisting map. Seems like alot of work to get to the same point.
Power near the top end you say? Not sure that exists in the stock 96. It's like they start gasping for air around 5500 rpms. The way I did mine was to keep it reasonably lean to around 3000 rpm since my cruise range rarely exceeds that. At the same time if I need to pass I want it rich enough from cuise that it won't ping hauling ***. I believe I added 2 points to accel fuel to help. Can't exactly remmember now but it's about 13.7 in the cruise range and from high 20s tps it slopes to 44% at 12.55 to full throttle or something. What I'm trying to say is the transition from lean to rich has been narrowed and I don't spend much time in the in between afrs that might ping on high load. Keep in mind , should I decide to run it at 3500-4000 my mileage is going to suck big time. 3 and below it about 42 mpg. Not saying to do this, but that's were I ended up eventually. Some more qualified than me will look at this and shake their head. But it works for me.

Thanks again Ron. I appreciate the input more than you know. I have found that I too have to increase the accel setting a bit to minimize the accel pinging I occasionaly get. And I have this incredible urge to not leave well enough alone. Go figure!!
