well i just ordered a manual today. hopefully someone can tell me something on these codes though while i wait for it so i can start figuring this thing out. someone locally mentioned they had the same issue and it was there voltage reg going bad. ??????
sorry,
shot in the dark.
1-could some wires on the bar be pinched..looks like handlebars have been changed and maybe something got pinched on the run/stop switch side?
2-do not know about those codes..i know of 1998 and older and 2000+
3-could it be something really simple like a wire that is grounding-out when you hit bump or after vibration?
4-was/is bike kept outdoors ??? corrosion at some terminal, battery + or ground strap
5- could it be a bank angle sensor..doubtfull because bike would cut-out totally but you never know.
as far as i know the bars are stock. i will look into some of these things though. doesnt seem to do it as much since the past 2 days have been above 67 degrees
I think your problem might be a spark plug wire that is breaking down when heating up. I would change both the plugs and the wires. I had a similar issue when out on a trip a year or so ago. Called my local tech that has done all work on my bike and he was at a loss (after lots of troubleshooting over the phone)even with the diag codes.
I took a shot at the plugs and wires. low and behold, when I pulled the rear cylinder plug wire off, i could see where it ran over the top of the cylinder header, the heat had broken the shielding down. i changed both wires and both plugs, cleared the codes and they never came back. the dealer will gap the plugs for you right there...
check your ground wires....
at the battery
at the starter
at the front cylinder where it connects to the frame
I have got a Dyna 1999 same thing here but ist only when it gets colder when its warm no problems. In the clymer manuel you can read how to pul the codes from your bike its easy mine says its the Map sensor and propebly yours gona be the same im still working on the bike but it seems to be the map sensor that i need to change and give the carb en total fuel system a good cleaning this will clear it of probs i think.
Someone Speak on the Cal 9 code of his. or cal 5 in mine
I am having speedometer problems on a 99 FXST. Replaced the sensor and it started working again, but not accurate, will not go past 35 when doing 60. I see these 10 codes d0 1-d0 9 and the last one is Cal 5. I found info on how to calibrate, but mine will not sweep accross or go into calibration mode. This is the link to the instructions I am trying to use. http://www.autometer.com/download_instruction/1189.pdf
I have a 99 wideglide with a 1550 big bore kit in it.....my bike back fires and the engine light comes on often....it runs great even tho it backfires....nobody can tell me why it does this and the local dealership told me theres no reason to even have a engine light being that theres no onboard computer....any info would be great
