Question Does anyone know...

if I can draw constant power in the head light necelle with out turning on the ignition switch or do I need to go directly to the bat for that?

I have an FLHRC Road King and I'm waiting on the arrival of my new GPS and wanted to do some pre-wiring prior to receiving the unit. My thought was to wire in a two prong/wire connector and fish it through the gap between the handle bar and cover.

or I'm open to ideas and/or suggestions or pics of what some of you have done to wire in your GPS...Thanks in advance.

i dont know why you want constant power. the gps will have a built in batt so that it wont turn off with key off. there is an accy power and ground wires taped up on the headlight wires that are perfect for these types of accys. any constant power wires that you tap into may cause a key off draw that will kill your batt if you leave it parked for any amount of time.

I purchased a Garmin Streetpilot 2820 which does not have an internal battery.

Default watch-out

Make sure you read the instructions for your GPS before you start wiring it. Most of them need a resistor in between the battery and the GPS unit. Straight 12+ volts may fry it.

Off-road guys found this out the hard way.
