The 10vdc is showing at the guage on the fairing while running at idle speed. It does not increase when engine speed in increased. Tail light, brake light and directional lights also do not work at idle. I connected a charger to battery terminals while running and brought the guage to 12 volts. Lights did work. I would like to pin point problem, rather than buying not needed parts.
You need to start at the battery voltage, then load test, then starter draw test, after that you need to look at voltage at idle and at 3000 rpm.
The following specs are off the top of my head, your Electrical Diagnostics manual will have the EXACT specs...
Battery should be at 12.3 vdc at static
Voltage should go no lower than 10 vdc during cranking
Battery voltage at idle should be 12.5-13.5 vdc
Battery voltage at 3k rpm should be around 13.8-14.4 vdc
Stator should not be grounded out
Stator should produce about 35-45 vac at 3k rpm
You will need to pinpoint which component failed... you can always open up the primary inspection plate, and if you get a really bad, burning smell, your stator has failed.... no need for more testing...
