I did the research and even talked to an hd parts guy before bothering you all with this question/problem.
As one of my options, I went to my local HD dealer and inquired about getting a smart security system for my 2000 RKC only to find out that there is no product listed for the year 2000....it's listed as 1997-1999 and then jumps to 2001. He had no idea why and so we mosied on back to the mechanic - he didn't know either. The parts guy called HD and they said they would get back to them...that was 2 days ago - the parts guy called me and still hasn't heard from HD. He did however continue to research this and discovered that the connector kit specifically for the 2000 model was rendered obsolete and no longer available. This explains why no security listed but does not explain why this affects only the year 2000. ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT'S GOING ON HERE???
I am considering either a cyclone 866f or better yet the scorpio - my concern is that these after-market systems may not work for the same reasons the HD smart system won't....whatever reason that is!
Well, I've had the Scorpio's previous-generation name, ThunderPager on my 2001 and bought it specifically instead of the HD alarm system. For over 9 years and it has done everything as advertised, and much more than the HD system for less money. Self-install means no wasted trips to the dealer and great customer service at Aritronix is just gravy...

Thanks - it's great to hear opinions from people who use the product - I go absolutley crazy thinking about all the options so in order to stay sane I made a decision...well half....in order to stay within budget and wanting mainly an immobilizer and a disc lock, I decided to get (and just bought) the Digital Guard Dog for the immobilizer and now I'm deciding between the Xena Disc lock (for the alarm) or the Roadlok Defender (for the ease of use and the impossibility to forget it's in use).
