I did the research and even talked to an hd parts guy before bothering you all with this question/problem.
As one of my options, I went to my local HD dealer and inquired about getting a smart security system for my 2000 RKC only to find out that there is no product listed for the year 2000....it's listed as 1997-1999 and then jumps to 2001. He had no idea why and so we mosied on back to the mechanic - he didn't know either. The parts guy called HD and they said they would get back to them...that was 2 days ago - the parts guy called me and still hasn't heard from HD. He did however continue to research this and discovered that the connector kit specifically for the 2000 model was rendered obsolete and no longer available. This explains why no security listed but does not explain why this affects only the year 2000. ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT'S GOING ON HERE???
Also, for those who own a 2000, what do you use for security....by the way my fork lock doesn't work. I am considering either a cyclone 866f or better yet the scorpio - my concern is that these after-market systems may not work for the same reasons the HD smart system won't....whatever reason that is!
Anyways, sorry for the long post. Any help is appreciated.
Todd

either of those systems would work, you are going to direct wire them in and they will give you wiring directions based on your year and model bike, I would google the 2 you like and read reviews from people who have them, I have the Harley alarm now but have put aftermarket alarms on other Harley's I've owned in the past and actually prefer them, you can make them more sensitive than HD alarms and I like that, the alarm I had the best luck with was by Ungo but they no longer make motorcycle alarms just car and marine, they sold their motorcycle division I believe to Scorpio but I could be wrong on that

Yeah, looks like more features for the buck with an aftermarket anyways.
Had the DGD on my (1996) Road King - Great piece. Installs in 10 minutes.
Just make a "tag" of sorts when you bring the bike in for service -- The fob is motion sensitive -- If they have it in a bag or something, they might think your starter relay went out.
Oh yes - It's happened. Even after a stern verbal warning about the DGD... Left my bike sitting unlocked and ready to ride away for over a month before I even found out about it.
