My speedo has recently occasionally been reading half the true roadspeed. It has happened a couple of times now and the problem remains until I stop. So far, the problem has gone away once I have re-started the bike. I have removed the sender on the transmission and it is clean, free from metal flakes. The bike is a 2001 dynaglide with an electronic speedo. Any have any ideas what is wrong?
Cheers,
Jon
Recommended:
1. use engine kill switch
2. turn ignition off.
Start:
1. set kill to run position
2. turn ignition on
3. press start.
Not trying to be wise. There have been some issues with tach and speedo due to shut process. Now if you have been doing the aforementioned, you could have a bad speedo sender.
Hi Sleepneagle,
Thanks for that tip. I already always shut down the way you say but when I start her up, I normally switch on the key with the engine kill switch still in the off position, which is different to the start up routine you suggest. I will try doing it in the order you suggest from now on and see if that makes a difference. As for the sender, is there any way to test it without buying a replacement? No doubt they will be costly in the U.K.
Cheers,
Jon
