SE Ignition problem

Hi folks, looking for a little help here.
Before this 1999 bike was striped down over the winter, it had an SE ingnition installed and ran perfect.
The engine has been put into the frame and wired for the ignition side only to see if were getting a spark, when i hit the button the plugs only spark once, the wiring has been checked by 4 differant people who have built these bike before and all agree its wired correctly. So we thought the ignition module was goosed, so i bought a new one and fitted it and it still only sparks once.
I am getting conflicting stroies about these units, some pepole say, just plug it in and it should work, others say it needs programing, but no one can tell me how to do this.
I have been told if i get a standard harley ignition unit and plug it in it will work.
The new unit is Ł251.00 plus VAT.
So my question is, has any one had this problem before and managed to get it sorted?
And before i buy a standard harley 1, is there any other makes out there which are cheaper, and just, plug in and go.
Many Thanks
Stewart
Thanks very much for your help.
I put in a standered back plate with an external ignition module and the bike is sparking fine.
The new SE ignition module i got from harley is obviously Knackered, so i will be returnig as soon as.
Many thanks
Stewart
