MAP sensor

I have an '01 Dyna twin cam, carburated. The check engine light stays on/ stays off periodically. Dealer checked code and said it was 12, MAP sensor has short to ground. I've checked and rechecked every wire and haven't found the ground. Could this be the MAP sensor itself going bad. Is there a way to physicaly test the MAP sensor? I can't tell any difference in the engine with the light on or off. Could this dammage my bike
