hey ticktock i tried youre steps i didnt find any hidden devices on the belkin converter. i went ahead and uninstalled the device and re installed the driver software form the web site the device manager says the device is working properly and i looked for hidden devices again and still didnt find any. thanks for the help! any more ideas? Matthew
the adapter plugs into a cable that then goes into the sert - correct? One thing that can sometimes cause issues is when the cables are too tight. you see this alot with a monitor connected to the computer. One thing to make sure of is that the cables are not too tight - not too loose.
The next thing to try is another adapter. Perhaps you can take your laptop to the Harley shop and ask them if you could simply borrow their usb adapter for a moment, go outside and see if it works on your bike.
Finally I am assuming that you are using the cables that came with the SERT and a Belkin USB adapter. If for some reason you are using a different serial cable then you may have a defective one of those or somehow you got your hands on a NULL modem cable (this has wires reversed) which looks like a serial cable.
Can you post a screen shot of the error so we can see the exact message? Also, post the log file contents (it is just a text file you can view with notepad)
FYI, I am quite certain that if you get this message at 20 percent the interface is not matched to the ECM. I suppose it's possible the interface or ECM has a problem, but this would be unusual!
If the USB interface is the problem, this usually causes the 'unable to install bootloader' issue at 25 percent (but the percent may vary based on which version of the software you are using - this is for version 477)
hello gary, all. i got the bike to accept a download today with an old lap top i picked up from a tech freind of mine! thank god! the old toshiba had a serial port on it and it worked awsome! the HP i was using with the adapter with has other programing sowtware as well. i think my problem is with RSLinks it works as a client server service for RSlogix5/500/5000 PLC software. since it runs as a service i dont think it shows up under the hidden file in device manager it might be linking to the usb/232 converter ill have to check monday. i go back to work on fri and will pull three 13.5 hour days. ill post the snap shot on monday as well as the log file contents i wont have time till then. thanks for the help!
