Charging System Issues
I have an '03 Dyna T-sport and I'm having a problem with my charging system. With a full charge and no load on it the battery shows 12.5 volts. When I start the bike, put my volt meter across the battery and rev the enging up to around 2500 rpm I get no rise in voltage. This usually means either the regulator or stator is bad. I went to the dealer to get them to put their test equipment on it for a more component specific diagnosis so I would'nt buy the wrong part and after testing they told me that there was nothing wrong with the system, that the plug between the regulator and stator had a loose pin and the tech fixed it for me. I rode the bike for a couple of days and the battery died again. After charging it up I get the same results when testing for a voltage rise and 2500 rpm. I checked the plug and it seems to be ok. Does anyone have any input on this? Is there any other tests that I can do that would tell me what going on? Thanks.
